Maya specifically addressed previous comments she'd made about her role in Quentin Tarantino's 2019 film Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood. “I never meant to imply that I didn’t get the part for nepotistic reasons — I think I totally did,” she said.

She also reflected on whether her accomplishments through nepotistic connections have been "deserved." “‘Deserves’ is a complicated word," she said.

Maya went on to acknowledge that she occupies "a lucky place" and has a "really honest and positive" relationship with her parents — and she even cracked a joke about why nepotism was the ultimate path for her career.

“I saw two paths when I was first starting, and one of them was: change your name, get a nose job and go to open casting roles.”
