Mariska Hargitay returns the favor, names her cat after Taylor Swift song
Olivia Benson, meet Karma.
Karma is a cat, purring in Mariska Hargitay's lap 'cuz it loves her.
The Law & Order: SVU star has added a new feline to her family, and given it a Taylor Swift-inspired name: Karma. Hargitay shared the adorable news on her Instagram on Thursday, complete with swoon-worthy pics of the kitty and hashtag references to the Midnights track that inspired her name.
"Karma is a Cat @taylorswift Meet Karma. My Cat.🐱 #MeAndKarmaVibeLikeThat #AndIKeepMySideOfMyPawClean #KarmaIsACat," she wrote. (Swift has not weighed in on whether or not she and Karma the cat, do, in fact, vibe like that.)
The Swiftie-approved name is rather fitting, as fans of the Grammy winner know all too well one of her beloved cats, Olivia Benson, was named after Hargitay's longtime SVU character. Swift's other cats — Meredith Grey and Benjamin Button — also have pop culture-inspired names.
In August, Hargitay made her connection to the pop star's pet a full-circle moment when she attended Swift's Eras Tour in Los Angeles, and wore a friendship bracelet that spelled out Olivia Benson.
"Still in the afterglow of the most magical night," Hargitay wrote in an Instagram post at the time. "Deepest gratitude to @taylorswift for your poetry and wisdom. You inspire us and connect us to our #delicate tenderness, joy, hope and strength—and most of all, our wish to live and love courageously. Thank you, Taylor, for all you do and all you are."
Olivia (the cat) has appeared in several of Swift's music videos, including "Blank Space," "Me!" and "Karma." Here's to hoping we get a Karma x Olivia crossover event in the near future.
