Yahoo Lifestyle Marimekko's New Barrel Jeans Put a Floral Spin on the Trendy Denim Style

Sometimes, you find a piece of clothing that — after an iffy first impression — grows on you over time. This has been my experience with barrel jeans, also called horseshoe jeans, which have been one of the year's most popular denim styles. I initially thought these curved-leg pants were exclusively for very tall influencers, but it turns out, I really like how the silhouette look on my shorter frame (of 5'4", to be exact).
I have enjoyed styling the oddly-shaped pants with sneakers and fitted tops to balance the loose fit. Now, I'm ready to up the ante, which is what makes Marimekko's new printed horseshoe jeans so appealing. The pair, which are part of the Finnish brand's denim debut, hit mid-waist and have that curved barrel cut — but it's the signature Unikko pattern that makes them stand out even more.
Originally created by artist Maija Isola in 1964, it's a timeless and semi-abstract floral-inspired pattern. I first grew fond of the Unikko look when a friend gifted me a brightly colored umbrella covered in the motif. Superimposing it onto jeans elevates them from a day-to-day basic to something bolder, putting a printed, tonal spin on the trendy style.
