Pianist Covers 'Imagine' At Paris Memorial

Amidst the blustery, silent streets of Paris yesterday, the gentle twinkle of a piano could be heard.

Much of the city had dispersed following the terror attacks that left 129 people dead, but for the crowd that gathered outside the Bataclan theatre to pay their respects, the message was clear: peace must prevail.

The sentiment hit home for musician Davide Martello, who drove 400 miles to impart John Lennon's poignant words by playing 'Imagine' on his piano in the heart of the conflict zone.

"I phoned my friend to talk about it, got in the car and drove all through the night," he told the Guardian UK. "I just knew I had to do something. I wanted to be there to try and comfort, and offer a sign of hope.

"I can't bring people back but I can inspire them with music and when people are inspired they can do anything. That's why I played Imagine."

That he did, with his beautiful rendition of the song going quickly viral as mourners embraced Lennon's message of hope:

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too

Imagine all the people living life in peace

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

It might be a 40-year old song, but perhaps John Lennon knew the far-reaching effect his lyrics would have again one day.
