A 115-year-old, Emma Morano from Verbania in Italy’s north, says not having a husband is one of the secrets to living a long (really long) life. Born in 1899, Morano told The New York Times that she thinks having been single for the vast majority of her adult life (she ended an unhappy marriage in 1938 after the death of her baby son) has been key to her advanced years. “I didn’t want to be dominated by anyone,” she said.

Morano, who is the fifth oldest person in the world and still lives on her own at home, also credits eating raw eggs every day with her impressive longevity. We’ll take her word on that one.
