Kate Middleton and Prince William were greeted by adoring fans when they arrived at the Carlyle Hotel in New York today.

The duo touched down at about 5:40pm, and were taken by private car to the famous hotel, which is set to be their home for the next three days.

The pregnant Duchess wore a maroon Seraphine maternity coat to protect against the freezing weather, while William was similarly rugged up in a suit.

"It's good to be here," William reportedly told the hotel's managing director, Giovanni Beretta, who was waiting for the pair outside the hotel.

The philanthropic duo are in town for a whirlwind three days, with charity President Prince William set to meet with the World Wildlife Fund to discuss illegal poaching and harmful animal trade.

The Duchess is said to be "very excited" at the prospect of visiting the city, which she's never been to before.

"Kate has never been to New York and she is really looking forward to it now that she is over her illness," a source told The Daily Mail.

"Kate was upset she had to cancel her tour of Malta, but now she is over her morning sickness and really excited about America."
