Amy Schumer Says Fashion Should Be About Empowering women

Amy Schumer recently sat down for an interview with the Today Show in the US to discuss body image, both her own battle with it and her she wants to help women feel empowered.

"It’s an emotional thing," she told Maria Shriver.

"It’s been a struggle for me my whole life, and especially just being in the entertainment industry. Standing on a stage in front of people, I can’t perform my best or be confident if I’m not sure — if I’m pulling at something [I’m wearing]. And sometimes I would just want to throw in the towel and be like, “I’m not gonna go do standup tonight."

The star revealed that during filming for her film Trainwreck, he worked with stylist Leesa Evans who helped her learn the importance of dressing for her body and how the right clothing made her feel confident.

"My sister and I, we both have always dressed badly," she added.

"Leesa had given me this gift of showing me how to dress and feel good. And she didn’t have to do this, she just did. She shopped for my sister also, and seeing my little sister wearing a little blazer and a shirt and looking just like a strong, beautiful woman, it was [Schumer tears up] to see this person I care the most about being given those tools was really moving for me."

This is a large part of why has teamed up with Goodwill of Southern California to show women how they can use fashion to feel empowered and at the same time realise that Hollywood standards aren't realistic.

"I don’t think we all need to be fashionistas to feel confident and good and like you have a good outfit." "I’m coming out like, ‘OK, here’s what’s going on: No one’s just naturally thin. Everyone’s starving," she added.

During her first HBO stand-up special over the weekend, Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo, which was directed by comedian Chris Rock, Schumer also touched on body image in Hollywood.

In L.A., "My arms register as legs … and my legs register as firewood," she joked.
