Julianne Moore Is Recruiting Celebrities For Anti-Gun Campaign

Oscar winner Julianne Moore has launched a gun safety campaign with the backing of a number of Hollywood heavyweights in the hopes of ending gun violence in the United States.

The campaign, which has the backing of stars including Steve Carell, Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Lawrence, Kim Kardashian, Yoko Ono and Reese Witherspoon plus dozens more, is calling for guns to be kept out of the hands of criminals, domestic abusers, stalkers and those with mental illness.

"As American citizens, we are shocked and saddened by the loss of life, and the daily increase of gun violence in our beautiful country," Julianne said in a statement.

"We do not believe that the Second Amendment and gun safety are mutually exclusive ideas, and as a creative community, we will do everything we can to support the safety of our fellow Americans, and galvanize more to join us in this movement."

The Still Alice star says the 2012 shootings at Connecticut's Sandy Hook elementary school were the final straw in her deciding to do something herself.

"I was like, 'I've had it.' I said to my husband, 'I've got to do something. This is the one thing that I need to say something about. This is my responsibility as a parent'" she told the People.
