She's one of the most celebrated models in recent times, however Cara Delevingne has decided to quit modelling - and she says she's never been happier.

Speaking to the London's The Times newspaper, the 23-year-old explained that things got so bad that she decided it was time to step back from the fashion world.

"Modelling just made me feel a bit hollow after a while. It didn't make me grow at all as a human being. And I kind of forgot how young I was…I felt so old."

Speaking of the pressure to pose nude or in overtly sexual ways, she says she felt she didn't have the confidence or experience to say no to things that didn't feel right,

"I am a bit of a feminist and it makes me feel sick," she added. "It's horrible and it's disgusting."

Cara says the stress got so bad that she developed not only physical ailments including psoriasis but she also developed depression, recalling at age 15, times where "the feelings were so painful I would slam my head against a tree to try to knock myself out."

"It wasn't a good time, I was, like, fight and flight for months. Just constantly on edge. It is a mental thing as well because if you hate yourself and your body and the way you look, it just gets worse and worse."

Now as she embarks on an acting career, she says she is "the happiest person in the whole world," and admits the negative experiences she has faced in the past have made her stronger and able to stand up for herself - and others.

"If there is injustice I will flip out. If someone is crossing a line, they will know about it and so will everyone else."
