The rumours were true: Marc by Marc Jacobs is no more.

Today, WWD confirmed that the 14-year old label will cease production in the coming months as it looks to roll up into its parent brand, Marc Jacobs.

The move will "assimilate that collection's product range and price points into the signature Marc Jacobs collection", according to Marc Jacobs, who added, "In a sense, we're starting at the beginning. It sounds like a musical... a very good place to start."

Jacobs said that while the diffusion brand had absolutely made its mark in the industry, it felt like he was deploying two different messages by creating separate collections each season.

"We've gone through many different ways looking at what [Marc by Marc Jacobs] was initially and how it had gotten away from that, and I think again we're back to that same thing," he added. "The way to do it is that this is under one label."

There's no word yet on the future of the label's current creative directors, Katie Hiller and Luella Bartle, who have been at the helm since 2013.
