Fake Your Way To Amazing Hair

Brush with success
Marcia Brady was half right: brushing your hair 100 times a day will make it shinier, but it might also make it snap. "Brushing hair helps distribute natural scalp oils throughout the lengths to give it that subtle shine, and stimulating and massaging the scalp provides nourishment to strands," explains Moroccanoil creative design team educator Kevin Hughes.

"But overbrushing hair can result in breakage, and you can achieve great results in far fewer brush strokes."

A natural-bristle brush, like ghd Oval Dressing Brush, $34, makes hair soft and manageable, and helps polish the cuticle layer for extra sheen.

Brilliant hair is hydrated hair
"Make sure you condition - without proper moisture, hair becomes dull," explains Hughes.

Add a deep-conditioning mask, like Bumble and bumble Bb Mending Masque, $49, to your weekly routine. Used every other week, a clarifying shampoo like KMS California Hairstay Clarify Shampoo, $28.95, thoroughly cleanses the hair and scalp, removing product build-up and restoring balance and shine.

Before stepping out of the shower, "Give your hair a final rinse with cold water to help seal the cuticle and promote shine," recommends Hughes.

A healthy scalp plays a vital role in lustrous hair, and natural scalp oils help condition strands. "How often you wash your hair depends on your lifestyle and hair and scalp type. Generally, those with an oily scalp should wash hair every two days, while drier scalps can wash their hair every three to four days," says Hughes.

Weekly at-home glossing treatments boost radiance and, unlike some shine-enhancing styling products, won't weigh down fine hair. Try John Frieda Clear Shine Luminous Glaze, $19.99.
