Mariah Carey sells 13 million dollar engagement ring
Songstress Mariah Carey has sold the 35-carat diamond engagement ring given to her by media magnate, James Packer.
After their split, the pair were engaged in a financial settlement which saw the We Belong Together singer keeping the massive, sparkly rock.
“Mariah has been very vocal recently about her choice to move forward in her life surrounded by positivity,” her publicist told Page Six.
“That requires leaving emotional and material baggage behind, including an old engagement ring from an ex-boyfriend.”
According to several reports, the ring, which was reportedly worth approximately US $10 million (AUD $13 million), only sold for US $2.1 million (AUD $2.7 million).
According to the New York Post, there is only “one such ring”, and the singer’s PR people are “desperately trying to keep the story from the press”.
If the jeweller decides to disclose Mariah’s name during the sale, charges will be pressed against them.
Mariah and James dated for 18 months before splitting in October 2016.
At the end of last year, the Always Be My Baby singer was spotted at a glitzy fashion party in LA still wearing the engagement ring, signalling she may be trying to ridicule her ex.
In an interview with the Australian, he described their relationship as a “personal low in his life”.
