Margot Robbie Retires Barbie Pink for Brown Versace Gown at 2024 Oscars — and We Have a Guess as to Why
The actress' film 'Barbie' is up for eight nominations
Margot Robbie is capping off award season with a gorgeous look that's also quite possibly her least Barbie look of all.
For the 2024 Academy Awards, stylist Andrew Mukamal dressed Robbie in a sparkling strapless brown Versace dress with a structured bodice and draped waistline.
She kept her blonde hair simple and effortless and wore just one Fred Leighton bracelet for some added dazzle.
The Barbie star, who has been drawing outfit inspiration from her character for the past year, was noticeably more low-key for this red carpet, despite it being Hollywood's biggest awards show. Her costar America Ferrera, however, did the opposite on Sunday night. The Oscar nominee wore Barbie pink for the first time all awards season — also opting for a Versace look.
While we can't say for sure, we think it's very possible that Robbie, who also worked as a producer on Barbie, took a backseat for the Oscars, letting some of the rest of the Barbie family have their moment, including Ferrera.

Barbie is nominated for eight awards at this year's Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress for Ferrera and Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling. Though Robbie didn't score a nomination for her performance in the film, she brushed it off at a panel in January, showing gratitude for everything the film has accomplished and excitement for the nominations they as a team did get.
"There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed," Robbie said during a panel held at a special Screen Actors Guild screening, according to Deadline. She added that she is “beyond ecstatic that we’ve got eight Academy Award nominations — it’s so wild."
"Obviously I think Greta should be nominated as a director because what she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing, what she pulled off, it really is. But it’s been an incredible year for all the films," she added of director Greta Gerwig also not being nominated, per the outlet.
Robbie has scored a number of nominations throughout awards season, though, and has brought her impeccable Barbie style to each red carpet along the way, including her Golden Globes dress, which was inspired by the 1977 SuperStar Barbie.
That look was a custom Giorgio Armani Privé hot pink sequin gown and pink tulle boa, which she further accessorized with $3 million worth of Lorraine Schwartz Jewelry, including 30-ct. diamond studs and a 3-ct. D flawless old cut Golconda Diamond ring with natural vivid pink diamonds.
The 96th Oscars will air live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre on Sunday, March 10, at 7 p.m. ET.
