Marc Jacobs Glues Models' Feet To Their Shoes
Here's one for the bizarre yet clever files – Marc Jacobs reportedly has his assistants glue his model's feet to their shoes to ensure they can walk the runway without incident.
"At the Louis Vuitton SS12 show last autumn, the teetering heels models wore were stuck to the models' feet with wig glue," reported the Sunday Times Style magazine. "It's just one of the backstage tricks that Marc Jacobs and his team use to ensure that everything is perfect on the day."
The designer, who spent over $1 million to produce his 9-minute Louis Vuitton Fashion Week 2012 show, introduced the technique as a cautionary move after a model tumbled during the 2010 Marc Jacobs Fashion Week show.
The success rate so far has reportedly been 100%, with the Daily Mail commenting, "while Lindsey Wixson tumbled at Versace's show in September, the Louis Vuitton one went without a hitch."
The only downfall to the technique seems to be removing the models from their designer shoes at the end of the day.
But, concedes the Daily Mail, "there cannot be a better excuse for models who want to walk off with a free pair of designer heels, than: 'I'm sorry but I can't get them off my feet.'"
Jacobs, who recently turned down the role of creative director at Dior so he could continue his reign at Louis Vuitton, had even more reason to ensure the models in his 2012 spring show kept their shoes firmly on: the runway included a carousel they had to gracefully descend from.
"I thought of the spring, and specifically spring in Paris," Jacobs said of his inspiration for the show. "That meant the Tuileries gardens and the carousel within them. Something that is naïve and simple. Something that can be seen as a metaphor for the continuity of fashion and the seasons as they go round and round."
