How Many Super Bowls Has Patrick Mahomes Won?
Patrick Mahomes
Writers for Friday Night Lights weren't wrong: America loves a good QB1 story. Unlike other positions on the field, like running backs and wide receivers, the role of quarterback can be played by only one person at a time, allowing that player's star power to rise (see Bart Starr, Joe Montano and Tom Brady).
Even before Brady retired (again) in 2023, Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs was emerging as the NFL's "next big QB1." In 2020, the former first-round draft pick out of Texas Tech made history when he became the youngest Black quarterback to win Super Bowl MVP after the Chiefs downed the San Fransisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV.
The Chiefs and 49ers will again square off on Sunday in Super Bowl LVIII, making it a good time for a refresher on Mahomes' track record. How many Super Bowls has he played in? How many Super Bowls has he won? We didn't punt on any of the questions.

How many Super Bowls has Patrick Mahomes played in?
Patrick Mahomes has played in three Super Bowls, meaning Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 11 will be his fourth appearance in the Big Game (his fourth in five years, to be precise). Every one of Mahomes' Super Bowl appearances have come with the Kansas City Chiefs, who drafted him out of Texas Tech with the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Mahomes has led the Chiefs to a pair of Super Bowl titles (Super Bowl LIV in 2020 vs. the San Fransisco 49ers and Super Bowl LVII in 2023 vs. the Philadelphia Eagles), winning MVP both times. Mahomes was also named NFL MVP last year, making him the first NFL quarterback to take home NFL and Super Bowl MVP awards in the same season since Kurt Warner in 2022.
And how's this for rarified air? Mahomes also earned the NFL MVP award during the 2018 season. Only two other quarterbacks have won more than one Super Bowl and NFL MVP award during their careers: Tom Brady and Joe Montana.
Mahomes and Brady squared off once in the Big Game when Mahomes led the Chiefs to their second-straight appearance in 2020 (Super Bowl LV). Brady, then a QB for the Tampa Bay Bucs, got the better of the up-and-coming Mahomes. The Bucs won 31-9.

At 24 years and 138 days, he was the youngest Black quarterback to earn the honor and third overall, joining Russell Wilson (Seattle, Super Bowl XLVIII) and Doug Williams (Washington, Super Bowl XXII).
Mahomes and the Chiefs had the chance to defend their title in 2021, the Super Bowl for the pandemic-effected 2020 season, in which Mahomes won NFL MVP. Mahomes finished with 270 passing yards and threw two picks as Brady and the Tampa Bay Bucs routed the Chiefs 31-9. It marked the seventh and final Super Bowl win for Brady.
In 2023, Mahomes led the Chiefs to their third Super Bowl appearance in four years and reclaimed the coveted Lombardi Trophy in a 38-35 win. It wasn't easy.
