Mandy Moore Calls Out Amazon Over Unbelievable Delivery Incident: ‘Do Better’
Mandy Moore is calling on Amazon to "do better" after a delivery driver working on behalf of the company allegedly left a package on the front steps of her in-laws' burnt-out residence in the Los Angeles area.
The This Is Us alum took to Instagram with a photo of the parcel, clearly secured with Amazon-branded tape, placed on the top step of what looks to be the front walkway, with debris littering the rest of the concrete and the yard.
“Do better, Amazon," Moore wrote, as seen in a screenshot of the Story republished by TMZ. "Can we not have better discretion than to leave a package at a residence that no longer exists?”
Steve Kelly, a spokesperson for Amazon, told Parade that they've apologized to Moore for the insensitive oversight and have also "reached out...to ask for more information from her in-laws so [it is] better able to investigate what happened here."
The rep added that the company has advised delivery drivers in areas affected by the devastating wildfires to "use discretion...especially if it involves delivering to a damaged home."
He concluded, "...that clearly didn’t happen here."
It's not known when the package was ordered or why it was addressed to the destroyed residence, but it seems like an easy oversight to forget to update one's default shipping address in the wake of such a tragedy.
After receiving plenty of backlash, Moore defended herself in the comment section for People magazine, writing, "Sigh. This comment section is abysmal. Change the address? They’re in a hotel because their house burned down. Something was ordered before the fires and was delivered to rubble? I merely said have some discretion and say the package wasn’t able to be delivered. It’s pretty simple."
Moore has not been shy about calling out less-than-helpful actions following the wildfires that tore through the Los Angeles area for most of January, also shutting down critics after she advertised a GoFundMe to help her brother-in-law and sister-in-law recover after they, too, lost everything.
She and her family also lost much of their property in the fires earlier this year. While the main part of their house survived, it's not currently livable, and she, her husband, and their three children have reportedly been staying with Hilary Duff's family in the meantime.
