A man declined an important role in his friend's wedding because he was told that he could not bring his girlfriend as a plus-one.

Adrian Peru took to TikTok on Jan. 26 to share the "Will you be my best man?" proposal box he recently received from a friend of two years. Although he initially accepted the role, Peru revealed that he is now stepping down from the position because the bride won't allow his girlfriend to attend the wedding as his plus-one.

After excitedly telling the groom "Yeah bro, I'll be your best man!" Peru was informed that he would not be allowed to bring a plus-one. Assuming that meant no plus-ones in addition to his girlfriend, Peru was originally fine with that. But the groom specified that it's actually his girlfriend who is specifically banned from the wedding.

"He's like, 'Oh no, your girl can't go.' I was like 'What?' He's like, 'Yea 'cause my girl doesn't want your girl to be there,' " Peru recalled on TikTok.

Peru knows that his girlfriend and the bride previously "had a little bit of beef," but in his perspective it was "nothing crazy."

The TikToker gave the groom an ultimatum — unless his girlfriend is invited, he won't attend.

"I never thought that she wouldn't want my girl there," Peru said. "I was like, 'Bro, if my girl can't go I'm not going to go either.' Like I get it, it's her wedding too but how are you going to ask me to be the best man and I can't bring my girl?"

In the best man proposal box were various goodies, such as a custom flask and pair of sunglasses. Despite the kind gesture from the groom, Peru is sticking to his decision.

"We a unit baby 😤🤵🏾‍♂️," he captioned his post.

In the comments section, the majority of TikTok users respected both Peru and the groom's decisions to stay loyal to their girlfriends.

"Both respected their partners. Both correct in what they done," the top comment with about 50,000 likes reads.

"These men are both standing by their women🥰," someone else wrote, with another commenter adding, "Both are correct. They can invite and not invite whomever they want. He also can refuse to go for whatever reason he wants. It’s voluntary, not mandatory."

In a second TikTok video, Peru clarified what the "beef" between his girlfriend and the bride is.

The bride's friend had a "crush" on Peru. Despite only meeting him once and knowing he was in a serious relationship, the bride's friend allegedly began liking Peru's photos and even commenting heart eyes emojis.

After Peru blocked the bride's friend, he thought that the beef would be over. With the bride's friend in the wedding party, it's not.

"They don't want [my girlfriend] to go because that girl is going to be one of the bridesmaids," Peru said. "But how are you going to invite me to be the best man where I'm going to have to be around her the whole time and think that's cool with my girl?"

In a final update video posted late on Jan. 27, Peru said that the bride and groom decided to invite Peru's girlfriend to the wedding, with the caveat that she wouldn't be allowed to attend certain pre-wedding events. Peru and his girlfriend have decided to skip the nuptials.
