Major star set to replace RuPaul as host of Drag Race Down Under

The beloved reality show will return for a fourth season later this year.

In a world-first for the reality TV franchise, long-time judge Michelle Visage is set to replace RuPaul as host for the upcoming fourth season of Drag Race Down Under.

Stan announced the exciting news on Tuesday morning, marking the first time Michelle has taken on the highly-regarded role of host in the 15-year history of Drag Race.

The 55-year-old singer, actress and TV personality first joined RuPaul's Drag Race as a judge in 2011 for season three, replacing fashion writer Merle Ginsberg.

She has since appeared alongside RuPaul on the spin-off series RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under, RuPaul's Secret Celebrity Drag Race and RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs the World.

In a statement from Stan, Michelle said: “Thank you, RuPaul, for entrusting me with one of your beloved shows. The colour, humour and outrageousness of Down Under drag holds a special place in my heart.

“I'm ready to do everything in my power to encourage these beautiful queens to believe in themselves and let their inner light shine through.”

RuPaul, who will remain as an executive producer, added: “It has been my great honour to bring Drag Race to Australasia. I can't wait to see the franchise flourish under the leadership of the incredible Michelle Visage.”

Who else is on the judging panel for season four?

Comedian Rhys Nicholson will return as a judge for the upcoming season of Drag Race Down Under, which is set to premiere later this year.

They will be joined by a rotating cast of extra-special celebrity guests and Down Under drag royalty, which is the first time previous contestants have been enlisted to mentor the new cast of local queens.

Season four will see 10 talented queens from Australia and New Zealand competing for a cash prize and the title of ‘Down Under’s Next Drag Superstar’.

Cailah Scobie, Stan’s Chief Content Officer, said in a statement: “Drag Race Down Under is such a beloved show and we’re excited to welcome Michelle as our new host to nurture fresh local talent alongside Rhys Nicholson and our yet-to-be-announced Australian Drag Race royalty from Season 1, 2 & 3. This season will have the whole world talking, and we can’t wait to show what makes Drag Race Down Under so special.”

The Stan Original Series Drag Race Down Under will premiere later this year, only on Stan.
