Major change coming to Uber Eats

Uber Eats has announced it is introducing a new minimum spend amount for grocery delivery services.

Customers who are looking to purchase less than $10 worth of groceries will be hit with a $2.99 charge.

The new charge will be introduced to the app, which offers grocery and alcohol delivery from select retailers, from next week.

It will be applied on top of delivery charges and service fees.

Purchases on takeaway food from cafes and restaurants will not attract the charge, but those wanting delivery on items from supermarkets, bottle shops and convenience stores will be affected.

An Uber Eats spokesperson said they don’t expect the charge to affect many users.

“As the majority of people are already spending more than $10 on items each time they order from a store on our platform, it’s not a change we anticipate will be felt by many - but it will allow us to operate a more efficient platform,” the company said in an email to customers.

Australians have been able to access grocery delivery on the platform since 2021 when Uber Eats began to offer purchases from Woolworths.

The company also partnered with Coles in April of this year to offer customers the choice between the two major supermarket brands.
