MAFS couple Ines and Bronson could actually be 'the perfect match'

Things got very fiery in tonight’s episode of Married at First Sight, as we met a head-strong and not-afraid-to-say-what-she-thinks Ines from Queensland.

The 28-year-old legal assistant is introduced as a “real firecracker” and a “tough nut to crack”. And it doesn’t take long to understand why.

“I have really high expectations of myself and other people. I’m super straight down the line and honest,” Ines said when introducing herself.

Stepping up to be Ines’ new husband is entrepreneur and male stripper Bronson. But despite his welcoming smile the first thing she says to him is “can we get rid of that eye ring”.

Offt.

We wouldn’t blame you for thinking these two are set for disaster, especially as the episode continued.

But, according to Clinical Psychotherapist Claire McHalick, the pair might actually be a better match than anyone – including them – thinks.

“I think the experts chose well with these two,” Claire tells Yahoo Lifestyle.

We learn that Ines’ family came to Australia as refugees from war-torn Bosnia, which all the experts agree had a formative effect on her personality.

When talking to them initially, Ines reveals how traumatised her parents were by the war and that they did not “have the tools or the mindset” to be there for their children, and she had to fend for herself.

“She can come across as abrasive but it’s the mask she wears to cover the pain of a troubled upbringing,” John Aiken said during the matching process.

And Claire agrees her background is why she is “guarded” and “hyper-vigilant”.

“A British child psychiatrist working in Britain before, during and after the second world war describes the ‘impingement’ on the child’s psyche that can happen as a result. The child develops awareness of her environment beyond what she would be expected to do in ‘normal’ circumstances,” Claire explains.

“She needs to be alert in a way that is not required if the parents are providing a secure physical and emotional environment.

“This kind of fracture in the psyche requires a person to find consistent security in their adult life and this they will test and test. In this instance it will be up to her husband to provide the kind of stability, security that she can challenge and survive again and again.”

The show’s experts hoped Bronson’s “light-hearted nature” would help Ines “lower her walls”, and his optimistic outlook would “rub off on her”.

Claire says it is Bronson’s own difficult past – the traumatic loss of his two brothers and his mother – that could see them really click as a couple.

“The traumatic loss of Bronson’s mother and two brothers will have emotional consequences but probably not of the kind that will prevent him from being available to Ines when she needs it,” Claire tells us.

“It will be interesting to watch them learn about each other. Hopefully Ines will be able to allow herself to let her guard down and not push Bronson away.”

Married at First Sight continues on Channel Nine at 7:30pm.
