Madonna’s ‘Celebration Tour’ Looks: Mirrored Versace Catsuit, Vetements Coat and Jean Paul Gaultier’s Updated Take on the Cone Bra

After a brief postponement following an unexpected health scare, Madonna returned to the stage on Saturday to kick off her “Celebration Tour” in London. Spanning four decades of her iconic discography, Madonna’s latest concert excursion will take her to 38 cities across Europe and North America.

The tour was initially slated to begin in July, but a severe bacterial infection landed Madonna in the ICU, forcing her first “Celebration” dates to be postponed until October. “If you want to know my secret, and you want to know how I pulled through and how I survive, I thought, ‘I’ve got to be there for my children. I have to survive for them,’” she said.

The Queen of Pop brought her brood on stage during her London debut, celebrating her eldest child Lourdes Leon’s birthday and performing alongside her teenaged daughter Mercy James, who played a rendition of “Bad Girl” on the piano. Madonna also paid tribute to several friends who died of AIDS, singing “In This Life” from her 1992 album, “Erotica.”

Earlier this year, Madonna showcased her costume archives on Instagram, giving fans a close-up look at some of her original Jean Paul Gaultier cone bras. The French couturier has teamed up with Madonna once more for her “Celebration Tour” — but he’s hardly the only designer crafting new custom ensembles for the legendary songstress. Vetements

Vetements’ creative director Guram Gvasalia announced in July that he was working with Madonna on costumes for her “Celebration Tour.” Designing your costumes was such a privilege and an honor,” he wrote on Instagram. “Seeing you work, seeing your drive and determination is so inspiring; now I understand why you are who you are. You are a fighter, you are an icon, you are the queen!”

One of Gvasalia’s custom garments is this oversized coat with statement shoulders.

Versace

Madonna removed a voluminous taffeta cape to reveal a mirrored Versace catsuit with exaggerated shoulders. The Italian label’s artistic director, Donatella Versace, congratulated her on Instagram. “My amazing friend – you are a ray of light in Versace on the first night of your Celebration Tour,” Versace wrote. “Your talent and creativity inspires us all.”

Eyob Yohannes

Madonna sported a Gaultier-inspired black floor-length kimono by costume designer Eyob Yohannes and creative and design associate Rita Melssen, which she accessorized with a Malakai sterling silver halo crown embellished with Swarovski crystals and an aquamarine “third eye.”

Jean Paul Gaultier

Gaultier reinvented the iconic cone bra for Madonna’s “Celebration Tour,” creating a black beaded corset bodysuit with intricate boning. Matching Sol Angel opera gloves dotted with crystals completed her look.
