Love Island's Cassidy defends controversial behaviour

Earlier this week Love Island contestant Cassidy McGill left viewers — and her fellow islanders — absolutely stunned when she decided to swipe her “ex” Grant back from Tayla in a controversial recoupling.

Fans of the show were quick to call her out for being “tactical” and accused her of choosing Grant just to be “spiteful”.

She’s since been given the boot from the luxury villa in Mallorca after Australia voted for her to leave, and has revealed to Be that she has absolutely “no regrets” about her shock decision.

“When I stood up there to recouple, I had to choose from Jaxon and Grant, so from that point obviously I was recoupling based on friendship,” she said.

“To be honest, for me it felt more like a tactical move or more like ‘playing the game’ to have chosen Jax because I knew that there was more of a chance that he would pick me the next week.”

“That’s more of a tactical move,” she added. “That’s trying to keep me in the game to play the game, whereas with Grant… I wanted to prove that I’m willing to put my position on the line and prove that I’m not playing a game, that I am genuine.”

Fans of the show had been left horrified on Monday when Cassidy swooped in and took her former man from her love rival Tayla, branding her “cruel” and “spiteful”.

Of course, there were fans who were firmly in Team Cassidy too, with many totally disagreeing with the opinion she was being deliberately mean.

While others praised the barmaid for the way she handled the whole “love triangle”.

Cassidy isn’t fazed by the fact some of Australia were disappointed in her last recoupling on the show, saying all the “highs and lows” were worth it.

“I got to feel all different kinds of emotions,” she said. “I had special moments with Grant, I had special moments with Josh and I had that spark with Dom.”

Nothing but love for @cattcity as we say farewell. 😭 #LoveIslandAU

She also said that she thought Grant and Tayla were a “genuine couple”, but added she thought they were both “young and immature”.

Guess only time will tell if they last now Cassidy has left.

Love Island Australia airs at 8.30pm on 9Go Sunday to Thursday.
