'Love Is Blind' Alum Matt Barnett Crowdfunds for Family Dog's Surgery

'Love Is Blind' Season 1 fan favorite Matt Barnett shared some sad news with the world when he announced that his family's Shiba Inu, named Bandit, needs emergency gallbladder surgery.

Barnett wed Amber Pike after becoming engaged sight unseen on Netflix’s Love Is Blind and the couple also share a dog named Koda together.

Barnett wrote on Instagram, in part, "On Saturday, I was on a flight for work when I received a devastating text message: "Bandit has gallbladder torsion and needs emergency surgery, or we have to put him to sleep."

According to Blue Pearl Pet Hospital, "If caught and treated early, the prognosis can be quite good. However, the longer the wait time for surgery, the poorer the prognosis. Unfortunately, GDV can be deadly without timely treatment. If treated early, about 90-95% of dogs having surgery to treat bloat will survive."

There has been no update as of yet on Bandit's condition.

Barnett explained on the GoFundMe page for Bandit's surgery that On Sunday, July 14, he had to undergo emergency gallbladder surgery. This surgery, plus the stay in the veterinary hospital, has been an extreme financial burden on my parents, who have recently retired and are living on a fixed income. Amber and I really want to help them as much as possible. I hate even the thought of asking for help, but this one hurts, and anything would be helpful.

As of today, $10,106 of the $16,738 costs have bene crowdfunded, with a top donation of $1000 made by someone.

Barnett explained in the backstory of the post that Bandit was originally his pup, and he got Bandit and his sister when he was in college at Georgia Tech. Barnett goes on to say, "He was always my best bud, and I did everything I could with him. After graduating, I moved to Texas for work and, unable to fully care for him like he needed, I left him and his sister with my parents to keep them from feeling too much like empty nesters. Being a Shiba Inu, Bandit has such a unique personality that has always been entertaining, so I missed him dearly."

Barnett went on to explain that bandit's sister, Abby, sadly passed away in 2021 due to a brain tumor, but Bandit has always been healthy.

Here's hoping Bandit is well on his way to recovery. It's so scary when a dog has to undergo surgery and I'm sure Barnett's family is so grateful for the support they have been given.
