Look Great in Summer Photos

b>Q. What kind of make-up should I wear to look great in my summer photos?

A. To make sure you don't overdo or underdo it:

EVEN OUT Apply face lotion to plump skin and soften wrinkles. Cover under-eye circles with concealer—the camera accentuates darkness. For colour photos, choose pink- or peach-based make-up; for black-and-white, pick yellow-based formulas. Avoid translucent powders; they appear pasty and zap colour. Choose one with yellow tones, like Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Loose Powder ($65; selected dept stores) or Inika Mineral Foundation in Passion ($54.95; chemists, selected salons).

BRIGHTEN So you don't look washed out, wear foundation a shade darker than you normally would and dust bronzer over your cheeks, chin and nose. Opt for matte formulas—anything shimmery can cause glare. Choose a soft, sand-coloured eye shadow, such as Kit Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Loved Up ($28.95; kitcosmetics.com, Myer) or Natio Mineral Eyeshadow Trio in Bronzed ($13.95; selected dept stores and chemists). And, if you want a light pink for your lips, I love Giorgio Armani Silk Lipstick 23 ($49; exclusively at selected David Jones stores).

DEFINE Facial features tend to appear smaller in pictures. Line your eyes' upper lids and lower rims using a charcoal, brown or navy pencil; black is too harsh. Use a lip pencil no more than two tones deeper than your natural lip hue to line and fill in lips. Try The Body Shop Lip Liner in Beech ($16.95; thebodyshop.com.au) or L'Oréal Paris Infallible Lip Liner in Golden Burgundy ($24.95; chemists).
