Lisa Wilkinson fires up at PM over rapid antigen test comment: 'What now?'

Lisa Wilkinson has called out the prime minister over his comments saying he would not make rapid antigen tests free for everyone.

Taking to Twitter, the The Project host, who has been outspoken about the government’s handling of the pandemic for months now, called out Scott Morrison over the current crisis around obtaining antigen tests.

“Dear PM, You told us to lockdown. We did. Told us to vaccinate. We did. Told us to get out there. We did,” she wrote.

“Now, businesses everywhere are closing, your “free market” on RAT tests sees obscene price gouging, the vulnerable exposed & kids can’t get vax appt’s. What now?”

It comes after Scott Morrison refused to make antigen tests free for everyone in Australia, despite there being a reported shortage of the tests for people to access.

"We're now in a stage of the pandemic where you can't just go around making everything free," he told the Seven Network on Monday.

"When someone tells you they want to make something free, someone's always going to pay for it, and it's going to be you."

Fans of Lisa’s were left shocked when well-known radio DJ Kent ‘Smallzy’ Small, who has hosted Smallzy’s Surgery since 2012, replied to her tweet with the comment: “Dear Lisa. No one asked you.”

People were quick to come to the TV host’s defence, writing: “She is asking a question. Your comment is embarrassing to whatever side you are on.”

“She’s doing her job and holding people accountable particularly when leaders are meant to lead, and not confuse. I for one fully support Lisa in her stance against the PM and the dogs breakfast we’re all trying to figure out,” another person said.

Meanwhile, celebrity chef Colin Fassnidge also commented on Lisa’s tweet, revealing a receipt for antigen tests he had just managed to nab at a chemist in Matraville.

“Just bought 5 tests for my staff $79. So a few times a week is going to hurt the pocket !!! And that’s if you can get them,” he said.

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese lashed out at the prime minister over the rapid tests, saying the government failed to prepare for a shift away from PCR tests without ensuring supply.

"This is a public policy failure the likes of which we haven't seen in this country before," he told reporters in Newcastle.

"It is unbelievable that the government has told people to not go and get tested, but to test themselves with a rapid antigen test that isn't available and that isn't affordable."
