Herald Sun refuses to back down over ‘racist’ Serena Williams cartoon

The Herald Sun is refusing to back down following its publishing of cartoonist Mark Knight’s depiction of a tantrum-throwing Serena Williams.

The cartoon depicts Serena’s confrontation with umpire Carlos Ramos during the US Open final, showing the tennis superstar destroying her racquet with a child’s dummy lying on the ground next to her.

Social media users have slammed the image as being ‘racist and sexist’.

Knight has defended his controversial cartoon by saying he was simply trying to illustrate Serena’s bad behaviour.
