Heartbreaking Letters To Santa From Children In Struggling Families

As we get caught up in the celebrations of Christmas, it can often be easy to forget about those less fortunate at this time of the year, especially children in struggling families.

However The Mothers Against Drugs organisation in Queensland, who run a volunteer group called 'Be an Elf', have released a list of letters to Santa from a handful of humble kids, who simply want some of the things we take for granted every day for their christmas presents.

Instead of asking for the latest gadgets or expensive toys, these kids want socks, water bottles and school books.

Amongst the heart-wreching letters is one from an unnamed 12-year old, who writes that they would like "dad not to hurt mummy", if the elves aren't too busy.

Another, from a girl named Erin, writes that the thing she most wants in the world for Christmas is "soft towels that smells good".

Speaking to the Gold Coast Bulletin, Mothers Against Drugs founder June Hintz said last year a 10-year-old boy requested a hot dinner of mashed potato and lamb chops for his Christmas wish.

When they went to deliver it to him, they found out that he was actually living out of a car.

"Many of the children do not attend school regularly because they do not have school shoes," she said.

"Others do not have reading glasses as they have lost them and their parents can’t afford to replace them."
