Professional photographer Adrian Alford chose to forgo a colleague's help at his nuptials, instead proposing to his wife they use his own equipment.
The Brisbane couple decided to elope on top of a mountain in New Zealand, with only their camera gear and a witness in tow.
"As a professional photographer the wedding pictures were always on my mind," Alford told the ABC. "I searched for photographers, good ones. But for some reason I wanted to take my own photos, unrestricted.
"So I took the brave step of doing my own wedding photography or the #worldsfirstselfiewedding as I called it."
The resulting shots are pretty stunning - the couple can be seen cavorting in lavender fields and walking on roads in front of snow-capped mountains.
But make no mistake, despite Alford's extensive wedding experience, this was no easy feat.
"In the six months leading up to the wedding, Kristy and I would practice with the new gear needed so I was in front of the camera instead of behind," Alford explained.
"The days leading up to the ceremony were rainy and sometimes snowing. I was very worried at one stage after all those months of preparation and practice."
But Alford has no regrets - and with photos this stunning, he has no need to.

"Doing my own wedding photography had various risks and took a bit of research and practice," said Alford. "Was it hard going doing the world's first selfie wedding? Yes. Was it silly to attempt? Maybe."
