Also in attendance were Cowell, who managed Payne’s band via his ITV show The X Factor and was close to him, Cole, his ex-wife and mother of his son, and ex-Late Late Show host James Corden. A number of other well-known faces could be seen along with Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy. Upon Payne’s death, Cowell paused Britain’s Got Talent auditions.
Payne’s funeral took place at a 12th century church in Buckinghamshire, south England, this afternoon.
The singer’s body was flown back to the UK earlier this month for the funeral after the 31-year-old died tragically in Argentina on October 16. Payne fell from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. Tributes flooded in from the bandmates, Cowell and many others including Cole.
Three people have been charged in relation to Payne’s death with “crimes of abandonment of a person followed by death, supply and facilitation of narcotics.” Over the weekend, prosecutors claimed his friendship with an Argentinian waiter may have led to his death.
