“After 10 years, 17 if you include my years on the weekends, the time has come for me to step away from my role as anchor of Nightly News,” Holt said in a statement to NBC staffers Monday. “It has truly been the honor of a lifetime to work with each of you every day, keeping journalism as our true north and our viewers at the center of everything we do.”

He added: “I am thrilled to be able to work more closely with my enormously talented friends at Dateline as the broadcast continues to grow and attract new viewers in new places.”

Holt’s departure is the latest at NBC, which over the last year has seen the exits of Meet the PressChuck Todd and Today‘s Hoda Kotb. In related news, Andrea Mitchell stopped anchoring her daily show on MSNBC in January; she remains NBC News’ chief foreign affairs correspondent and chief Washington correspondent, and she’ll continue to report during breaking news coverage and during important political events.

Over at CBS, Holt’s fellow broadcast anchor Norah O’Donnell announced her departure as host of CBS Evening News in July 2024.

Variety was the first to report the news.
