Laraine Newman Says She 'Was Worried' for Daughter Hannah Einbinder to Star in “Hacks” with 'No Acting Experience' (Exclusive)
"As a mother, I was worried, but I didn’t need to be," the proud mom tells PEOPLE of her 'Hacks' star daughter
Laraine Newman couldn't be more proud of her daughter Hannah Einbinder.
While chatting with PEOPLE on Friday, Sept. 27, the Saturday Night Live alum, 72, revealed that she was initially quite worried about her daughter, 29, staring in Hacks, which she has since received three Primetime Emmy Awards nominations and two Golden Globe Awards nominations for.
Asked about how it feels to watch Einbinder act in such a successful series, the proud mom tells PEOPLE, "It’s thrilling! Everyone on that show is great, and Hannah has risen to the occasion."
"She had no acting experience, and as a mother, I was worried," Newman admitted, "But I didn’t need to be."

She continued to gush, "Her instincts and delivery are amazing. She even contributes jokes, which is what got her the job."
Newman then recalled a small moment from Einbinder's childhood that made her realize her daughter's writing talent.
"I remember doing homework with her, and she would write these boring sentences, but then come up with something brilliant. I’d think, 'Why are you holding out on me?' " She said, adding, "It’s thrilling to see her shine."

It's no secret that Newman is protective over her daughter, and this year's Emmy Awards definitely brought that out.
Shortly after The Bear's Liza Colón-Zayas won the award for best supporting actress in a comedy series — a category for which Newman's daughter was also nominated, for Hacks — the SNL alum shared a short but strong statement about the FX series being included in this year's comedy category.
"F---. THE. BEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" she post on X (formerly known as Twitter).
She later deleted the post, replying to one fan, "I took it down. Not my best moment." Instead, she replaced it with a post saying "I think The Bear is a great show but IMHO it’s not a comedy- not even a dark comedy."
