Yahoo Lifestyle Lapointe Fall 2024 Does Back-to-School, All Grown Up
When music started playing at the Lapointe Fall 2024 show on Saturday, it wasn't met with a first look — at least not immediately. Instead, after a few beats, the models made a grand and wonderfully theatrical entrance: descending from a "Lapointe"-branded yellow school bus that pulled up outside the venue and walking through the glass doors. Welcome to Lapointe University!
The Fall 2024 collection sticks to the New York-based label's signatures: statement pieces paired together according to color, to create eye-grabbing monochrome looks. The shades themselves vary — you'll see a silver jumpsuit with caped sleeves next to baby blue suiting, body-hugging gowns with all-over embellishments alongside cargo pants in highlighter green. That range is intentional, designer Sally Lapointe explained backstage, inspired by back-to-school season.
"Each [piece of clothing] was about one-upping your bestie, so every single one was supposed to be super powerful and better than your best friend," she said. "There's no age range [for this collection] — it's kind of a fantasy about what kids would look like today going back to school. It was very different when I went back to school." (In line with the theme, there's also a collegiate-style hoodie that says "Lapointe," plus "no fucks" in smaller lettering.)
The inspiration is pretty loose, not concerned with dress code or uniform. With this commitment to head-to-toe hues, Lapointe creates interest through texture, particularly through fur and feathered accents, as well as touches of patent leather in the accessories. Many models carried backpacks (just like with its monochromes, the brand really sticks to the theme), some of which boasted punky spikes, a collaboration with NYC-based jewelry studio Chrishabana.
