Who could be better to narrate the story of Hilary Duff's audition for Lizzie McGuire than her on-screen BFF?

Lalaine, who appeared as Miranda in the beloved Disney Channel series, narrates Disney High: The Untold Story of the Rise and Fall of Disney Channel's Tween Empire by Ashley Spencer, out now. The book takes a deep dive into how Disney Channel went from just another part of the Walt Disney Company to a cornerstone of childhood entertainment.

According to the book's synopsis, Disney High takes readers from the network's 1983 conception and their attempted Mickey Mouse Club reboot into the juggernauts of Hannah Montana and High School Musical.

The network figured out how to reinvent "itself as a powerhouse tween network," according to the book's synopsis. " At the turn of the new millennium, it churned out billions of dollars in original content and triple-threat stars whose careers were almost entirely controlled by the corporation." Think the Jonas Brothers, Raven Symone, Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato.

Included in the tell-all book, of course, is Duff's audition for Lizzie McGuire, the show that would eventually make her a household name. Duff, 36, was from Texas and had only acted in Casper Meets Wendy and Daddio (the latter of which had cut her role) at that point.

The candidates for Lizzie had been narrowed down to three actresses, including Duff. Her audition showed off her "casual warmth" which translated well to her acting, along with a "cool" factor that would be relatable to audiences.
