Kmart shoppers' warning about popular summer item: 'Mine snapped'
Kmart's surfboard is ideal for beginners, but some shoppers have a dire warning about the product.
If surfing some waves has ever been on your bucket list, one Aussie woman has taken to TikTok to show off a Kmart item that will no doubt be popular this summer. The store is now selling cheap surfboards perfect for beginners, which will no doubt excite anyone who has ever dreamt of embracing their inner Kelly Slater.
Retailing at $69, the surfboard has been designed specifically for children aged 10+ and stands at 165 centimetres. While the price is significantly less than what you might expect to pay for a surfboard, the budget retailer's option may not be all it's cracked up to be.
TikTok creator Jess Wright uploaded a video with the surfboard that her sister had bought for her kids, giving a "public service announcement" to Kmart fans.
"It's a hard back, and a foam front," she explained. "If you've got a kid who wants to have a go at surfing this summer, then this is probably a good starting point. $69, you can't really go wrong!"
She also complimented the look of the board. "And it's really nice looking, look at that colour gradient!" she said.

While the surfboard is a cheap starting point for beginners, with kids' surfboards often ranging in price from $200-$600+, people did flock the TikTok comments to send warnings about the Kmart product.
"Mine snapped in knee high waves," one person said. "I got one of these and it snapped lol," another shared.
"They have always sold surfboards, they are so bad," someone else commented. "I wouldn't take that out in swell any bigger then 1ft," another person said."Me and my mates used one bottom of board broke after first wave," someone else shared.

However, some shoppers were all about it. "Bargain. A leg rope costs $70. Fantastic," one person enthused.
Jess took to the comments section too to explain her sister only needed the surfboard for a short amount of time.
"My sister only needs it for a week while they are on holidays. They will then be gifting it to another child on the beach on their last day. Definitely not talking about catching huge waves, but I think it’s a great idea for little kids who would like to have a go at catching some of the baby waves that they usually boogie board on," she said.
