Kmart's $2.50 product transforms plain IKEA table into 'amazing' piece

A crafty DIYer has revealed how she used a cheap and cheerful Kmart product to completely transform a plain white piece of IKEA furniture into an ‘amazing’ personalised piece.

Teleasha from Perth took to Facebook to share a snap of a $149 BRIMNES dressing table that she’d redecorated using a $2.50 set of plastic stencils from Kmart.

“I’m an upcycler and love taking a piece of furniture and giving it a makeover,” Teleasha tells Yahoo Lifestyle.

After deciding on the leopard print stencil for this project, Teleasha — who shares her DIY projects on her Instagram account Owl And The Willow — did a quick search on Pinterest for inspiration and was ready to get the makeover underway.

For the pink base colour, she chose Dixie Belle Paint Company chalk paint in ‘Tea Rose’ and ‘Rustic Red’ for the leopard spots which she dotted across the top and sides of the table.

To make the table look less like a ‘brand new piece out of a box’, Teleasha mixed a texture powder called ‘Sea Spray’ into the paint for a vintage-y feel.

She also advises DIYers working with Ikea or any type of laminate furniture to always prime the surface before painting.

Teleasha’s primer of choice is ‘Slick Stick’ by Dixie Belle Paint Company — “it adheres your paint to the piece so you can enjoy your paintwork for many years to come!”

Her fellow Facebookers were stunned with the finished product, with one writing, “This is just amazing”.

Over on Instagram, fans were just as complimentary, calling it ‘just stunning’ and ‘super cute’.
