Kitty Song Covey returns to KISS for more romance and less meddling in first look at “XO, Kitty” season 2

The "To All the Boys" spinoff starring Anna Cathcart returns in January.

Kitty Song Covey's first kiss will not be her last — nor will her first semester at KISS be the end of her journey.

More than a year after Jenny Han's beloved To All The Boys franchise welcomed its Kitty-centric spinoff, XO, Kitty is finally getting a second season. And if the Covey track record tells us anything, it's that Kitty's second year at the Korean Independent School of Seoul will be just as messy as the first.

The series sees Anna Cathcart reprise her role as the younger sister of franchise lead Lara Jean (Lana Condor), only this time, Kitty has her own romantic troubles to untangle as she embarks on an adventure as a student at KISS, the very same boarding school her late mother attended.

New photos from Netflix see Kitty back in Seoul for a new semester and single for the first time in a long time. But this time around, the teen matchmaker — whose meddling accidentally paved the way for Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky's (Noah Centineo) love story — is leaving her old ways behind. Yes, Kitty is abandoning her habit of intervening for a simple year of casual dating… at least that's the plan.

But avoiding drama will be much harder than Kitty realizes, especially when it comes to unraveling the mysteries of her family's past.

"She has more to worry about than her love life, as a letter from her mother's past sets her on a wild journey, and new faces at KISS bring change," the season's official synopsis says. "As secrets unravel and bonds are tested, Kitty will learn that life, family and love are more complicated than she ever imagined."

XO, Kitty wrapped its first season with a breakup, a trail of breadcrumbs, and a major cliffhanger. The finale saw Kitty expelled from KISS for her semester spent living in the boy's dorm, but as a consolation, her mother's former roommate — principal Jina Lim (Yunjin Kim) — gave her a letter that teen Eve wrote to Jina way back when.

"My world got so much bigger because of you," Eve wrote to Jina. "And because of Simon."

Who is Simon? How is Kitty coping with her big breakup? And how did she manage to secure another semester at KISS? These and countless more questions will hopefully be answered when the series returns on Jan. 16.

In addition to Cathcart, the new season will also see the return of Kitty's three love interests: her longtime, long-distance boyfriend, Dae (Minyeong Choi); her would-be-nemesis-turned-crush, Yuri, (Gia Kim); and her wealthy playboy roommate, Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee).
