The Community movie isn't here yet, but it will be worth the wait, according to Ken Jeong. The actor, who memorably played irascible Spanish teacher Señor Chang on the NBC sitcom, recently gave an update about the script for the long-awaited project.

“It made me emotional, and just brought me right back," Jeong told TV Insider in a new interview. "That’s all I’m legally allowed to say.”

Community focused on the members of a "study group" at the fictional Greendale Community College: former lawyer Jeff Winger (Joel McHale), activist Britta Perry (Gillian Jacobs), TV superfan Abed Nadir (Danny Pudi), Christian mom Shirley Bennett (Yvette Nicole Brown), overachiever Annie Edison (Alison Brie), nerdy athlete Troy Barnes (Donald Glover), and misanthropic millionaire Pierce Hawthorne (Chevy Chase). All but Chase, who left the show in season 4 after many on-set arguments, have signaled that they will return for the movie.

The idea of a Community movie has existed since the original show, which ran on NBC from 2009-2014 before getting a sixth and final season on the short-lived streaming service Yahoo! Screen in 2015. "Six seasons and a movie" was a recurring rallying cry from Abed, who wanted that outcome for his favorite shows like Cougar Town (which did run for six seasons, but never got a movie). Ever since Community ended up with six seasons, fans have hoped for a movie, and it was officially announced by Peacock in 2022.

But it still hasn't filmed, which seemingly has to do with the busy schedules of all involved. For instance, Community creator Dan Harmon (who wrote the movie's script) is currently juggling multiple other shows like Rick and Morty and Krapopolis. Some fans have assumed that Glover (who created the show Atlanta and recently starred in season 1 of Mr. & Mrs. Smith) is the primary obstacle to scheduling, but Harmon has insisted that isn't true and told fans to "stop haranguing him!"

In any case, Jeong is excited for whenever they finally make the Community movie. After all, the show has had a significant impact on his life.

“There is a script, there is a plan. We just don’t know when [it will happen]. Once that’s agreed upon, it’ll be magical and real emotional," Jeong told TV Insider. “I think being on set experiencing that again [will be] so gratifying. Words can’t even express.”

Jeong added, "it is funny. I got to meet one of my best friends, Joel McHale, because of that [show].”
