Kate Middleton Wore a Chic Retro Coat Dress to Remembrance Sunday
The pussy bow and padded shoulders nodded to 1980s fashion.
After finishing chemotherapy, Kate Middleton made her grand return to royal duties in the most fashionable way this weekend. Yesterday, she made an appearance at the Remembrance Festival at Royal Albert Hall in a simple black wrap coat dress. Today, the Princess of Wales stepped out again for Remembrance Sunday on The Cenotaph war memorial in London to honor fallen soldiers from both the U.K. and Commonwealth.
For Sunday's event, Middleton looked chic in a black Catherine Walker coat dress paired with a dramatic veiled black fascinator. The dress, which was buttoned up to its high neckline, was accented with a black velvet pussy bow detail and slightly padded shoulders, giving it a retro feel.
She wore her hair in a soft chignon updo under her tilted hat, which featured a dramatic floral embellishment on one side and a thin netted veil covering her eyes. She accessorized with a pair of delicate drop pearl earrings. Middleton also wore her traditional three poppy pin in what many assume to be a tribute to her great-grandmother's brothers who died in the First World War.
During the ceremony, Middleton stood on the balcony next to Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh as King Charles and Prince William lay wreaths at the Cenotaph below.
The royal has spent much of 2024 out of the spotlight as she battled cancer and received preventative chemotherapy. Over the summer, Middleton made her first appearances of the year at Trooping the Colour and Wimbledon. In September, she revealed that she had completed chemo with a touching video.
"As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment," she said during the clip. "The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown."
After finishing chemotherapy, Middleton made several more low-key appearances, including a trip to Southport with her husband, Prince William, to meet with emergency responders who helped victims and survivors during a mass stabbing at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party.
Last month, she met with a young photographer named Liz Hatton, who is also battling cancer and was tapped to capture photos at an investiture ceremony at Windsor.
Earlier this week, Buckingham Palace confirmed Kate's attendance at this weekend's festivities. The princess has made an appearance at the celebration every year since she married Prince William in 2011. Yesterday, she also appeared at the Festival of Remembrance at Royal Albert Hall.
The palace also shared that King Charles, Prince William, Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburg, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and the Duke of Kent would also all be present during at this year's Remembrance Day events. It was announced yesterday that Queen Camilla would not attend, as she had been battling a chest infection earlier this week.
