Kate Middleton is just like any parent when it comes to back-to-school season. While the Princess of Wales has been enjoying soaking in all the family time with her kids and Prince William on summer vacation, a royal expert claims that she likely has mixed emotions about Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis getting back into their school routine—especially as she continues undergoing preventative treatment for cancer.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told OK! Magazine that after a whirlwind summer including trips to Norfolk and Balmoral, Kate may be happy to have a little extra time to herself now that “it’s back to the early morning discipline of school uniforms, bags packed, homework done, and the school run.”

"Entertaining three children day after day—especially when there must still be days when she is feeling the effects of her cancer treatment—can’t always have been easy in these past few weeks,” Bond said, referencing the Windsor family’s recent vacation plans at the royals’ estate in Scotland. "I think that, like most moms, Catherine will have conflicting emotions about the end of the school holidays.”

Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis will be returning to the private Lambrook School as day students starting this week, according to The Mirror. Lambrook, which is located just 15 minutes away from the Windsor family’s home at Adelaide Cottage, is also a boarding school and boasts its own golf course and orchard.

While Kate has stepped back from her royal duties amidst her health issues, Bond said that it’s possible that she could get back into some of her initiatives and other passion projects while her kids are at school.

"[The kids being at school] will give Catherine the chance to rest quietly when she needs it without feeling guilty that she’s not with the children, and it will also give her the opportunity to continue the work that she has been doing behind-the-scenes on the campaign and projects that mean so much to her,” the expert added.

Despite her busy summer, Kate recently announced the expansion of one of her charities, the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, with the launch of a new Baby Bank Alliance, so it’s very possible the princess could prioritize working on some of her most important initiatives this fall.
