Proving the family’s universal appreciation for the former Great British Bake Off star, Kate Middleton has revealed that one of Prince Louis’ first phrases was “that’s Mary Berry”.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 37, makes the sweet admission about her 19-month-old son in upcoming BBC1 programme ‘A Berry Royal Christmas’.

According to the royal mum-of-three - who appears in the TV special to be broadcast tomorrow evening at 8.30pm - her youngest child had become “fascinated” after seeing the 84-year-old food writer’s face on the cover of cookbooks in her kitchen.

“One of Louis’s first words was ‘Mary’,” she says.

“Because right at his height are all my cooking books on the kitchen bookshelf.

“And children are really fascinated by faces, and your faces are all over your cooking books, and he would say, ‘That’s Mary Berry’ . . . so he would definitely recognise you if he saw you today.”

Louis, who was born in 2018, has not been heard talking in public, however it is thought most youngsters will begin talking around the eleven month mark.

Kate appears along with Prince William, 37, in the one-hour show hosted by the ex-Bake Off judge.

They are joined by previous Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain, 34, as they prepare party food for an event to thank charity staff.

It was revealed earlier this month that the Duke and Duchess were embarking on the festive TV collaboration with Mary.

The couple gave their 10.4m Instagram followers a behind-the-scenes sneak peek at what to expect in the upcoming programme.

They caused delight online with a picture of Kate - wearing a beautiful £1,455 dress by Alessandra Rich with an added pussy-bow - beside William, Mary and Nadiya Hussain, while holding freshly-made roulades.

In the post revealing the news, the royal parents wrote: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have joined forces with cookery legend Mary Berry to prepare festive food to thank all those working and volunteering over the Christmas period.”

It continued: “The Duke, Duchess and Mary, along with some very special guests including @nadiyajhussain host a Christmas Party to thank and acknowledge staff and volunteers from charities and organisations who will be working tirelessly over the Christmas period.”

At nine-months-old, it is thought Prince George’s first word might have been “bilby” - a marsupial that’s native to Australia.

In a speech at the Sydney Opera House in 2014, William said: “George is now busy forging his own link with Australia.

“Catherine and I were very grateful for the many kind messages and gifts from across the country that we received when George was born.

“I suspect George’s first word might be ‘bilby’ – only because ‘koala’ is harder to say.”

Princess Charlotte’s first word was caught on camera at a children’s party in Canada in 2016.
