Kate Beckinsale Shares Emotional Message About the Death of Her Stepfather and Beloved Pet in Thanksgiving Post

Kate Beckinsale mourned "the mighty men, both two and four legged I have loved and been loved by" in an Instagram post she shared on Thanksgiving Day

Kate Beckinsale took time on Thanksgiving Day to honor those she's lost.

On Thursday, Nov. 28, Beckinsale shared a video of herself to Instagram in which she rearranged and observed photos of her late father Richard, stepfather Roy Battersby and late cat as the Beatles' iconic song "In My Life" played in the background.

Beckinsale's father Richard died in 1979, her stepfather Battersby died in January and her cat, Clive, died in June 2023.

"Gratitude for the mighty men, both two and four legged I have loved and been loved by , all of whom I watched die," Beckinsale wrote in a caption to her post. "And for my warrior mother and warrior daughter . Don’t feel bad if Thanksgiving makes you more aware of what you have lost and fear losing and if you have it in you, maybe try to glimpse the absolute gratitude and joy to have and have had these beings in life."

The Canary Black actress reflected in her caption that it can be difficult "to feel gratitude for what and who you lose and oddly, other people telling you to feel grateful to have your memories is often enraging."

"But honouring my fallen, my fighting , my deepest loves, feels right today," she wrote. "Painful but right."

Beckinsale announced her stepfather Battersby's death on Instagram back in January. Battersby was a British television director known for directing series like Inspector Morse, A Touch of Frost and Between the Lines. “I have no words yet," she wrote at the time of Battersby's death.

The actress' biological father Richard Beckinsale died at 31 in 1979 of a heart attack. Kate separately paid tribute to him in a March 2024 Instagram post. “This is my first year without any father figure at all for a long long time," she reflected in that post, written three months after Battersby's death.

In Kate's Nov. 28 Instagram caption, she thanked her mother Judy Loe for sending her flowers, seen in the video, as well as her own daughter, Lily Sheen, as she pondered the nature of grieving over the holidays.

"Thank you my mama for sending me these beautiful flowers despite all you are going through and to my daughter for making me so proud my breath catches in my throat," she wrote. "Happy day of being thankful and don’t beat yourself up if you don’t feel grateful. It’s in there."
