'I'm just going to say it': Today's cheeky jab at Karl after new bub

After reports they were spotted racing to the hospital, Karl and Jasmine welcomed baby girl Harper May Stefanovic on Monday.

Ally Langdon and fill-in host, Today Extra’s David Campbell shared a sweet snap with viewers and sent their congratulations to the happy couple, but it wasn’t without a good dose of their regular joking around.

Baby Harper came in at 2.9kg and blew all the hosts away with her cuteness, and Ally couldn’t resist a sneaky jab at her absent co-host, even after his happy news.

“That’s a beautiful baby,” she gushed. “I’m just going to say it now that’s all Jazz.”

“Looks like her mother,” David agreed.

The friendly jibes didn’t end there with David saying Karl reported a night of good sleep, and Ally adding that no word had yet come from wife Jasmine.

Ally also revealed Karl had been forced to move very quickly after he found out wife Jasmine had gone into labour on Monday.

“He left here in a hurry after work he did,” she laughed.

Bittersweet welcome

The happy welcome was tinged with a touch of sadness however, as the host reflected on the fact that they and many others will be unlikely to meet the baby for some time.

“Congratulations guys get a little bit of rest if you can and we cannot wait to meet her,” Ally said.

“Well, when we can meet her you know social distancing and...” David pointed out.

Ally quickly agreed, adding with Karl’s mum in Queensland and unable to visit, and his brother Peter Stefanovic and sister-in-law Sylvia Jeffreys looking after their own new bub it might be a while before Harper gets to meet her relatives.

“It’s very hard on families at the moment having babies,” she pointed out.
