'I am in awe': Karl Stefanovic and Jasmine Yarbrough welcome beautiful baby girl
Karl Stefanovic and Jasmine Yarbrough have welcomed their first baby together.
According to Richard Wilkins, who broke the news on the Today show on Saturday, Jasmine gave birth to "beautiful baby girl" Harper May on Friday just after midday at the North Shore Private Hospital.
Richard revealed that baby Harper May weighs 2.9kg with Karl joining the breakfast show saying, "Harper and Jasmine are doing well and dad had a great night's sleep."
"I am in awe. Harper is absolutely perfect," he added.
Karl, who shares two sons, Jackson and River, and Ava, with ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn, recently revealed in an interview with Stellar that he was worried at first about starting a blended family.
"I was worried for Jasmine, and for the kids, that it would be a hurdle, but they’ve been fantastic.
"I hope having a little baby girl in the household is going to be unifying."
Karl appeared on Today on Friday, but reportedly had to leave in a hurry to fetch Jasmine and take her to the hospital after taping wrapped.
The couple kept the pregnancy extremely private and only officially confirmed the news in February when Karl was put on the spot on the Kyle and Jackie O Show.
“Karl, you guys are expecting a baby aren’t you? You and Jas?” Jackie O asked the Today show host point-blank.
“Yeah,” Karl replied, adding that they were "very pumped".
Rumours had swirled for months that Jasmine and Karl were expecting their first child, and the couple officially confirmed the news in the adorable photo, after teasing the news in a series of other posts.
Back in December, Karl appeared to address speculation that his wife was pregnant by re-sharing a rather unflattering pap shot of himself at the beach on his Instagram along with a cheeky caption.
Sharing a paparazzi photo taken on December 14th to Instagram, the Today show host shared the exciting news while also taking a jab at his ‘dad bod’.
“After a great deal of speculation...the rumours are true,” he joked, adding a baby emoji.
The pair will be one of many couples welcoming a baby under the unprecedented coronavirus restrictions.
Already, Karl shared the bitter news that his mum Jenny, who lives in Queensland, won’t be able to be there for the birth or even likely meet the baby for a few months.
He said travel restrictions and state lockdowns mean it will likely be some time before the latest Stefanovic baby gets to meet her grandma, a fact he said was ‘hard for a grandparent’.
“She has lots of new grandbabies,” he said. “The reality is she's not going to be able to meet them.”
