Khloé Kardashian is being criticized for her family’s excessive water consumption after the reality star called L.A. mayor Karen Bass a “joke” for her response to the city’s fire catastrophe.

Community actress Yvette Nicole Brown led the charge by highlighting a Rolling Stone story calling the Kardashians some of “L.A.’s Worst Water Wasters” in 2022. “This is from 2022 when Los Angeles was in the midst of a drought,” Brown posted on Instagram. “Every citizen was asked to conserve for the good of everyone else. Y’know because of fires? This is how some citizens responded to the ask.”

She tagged Kardashian in the post and ended her comments with the question, “Is THIS a joke @khloekardashian?” The original story notes that the Kardashians used 33,000 gallons of water over the county limit in June that year, and called the clan “willfully ignorant of climate change.”

Despite being called out by Rolling Stone (and also by the L.A. Times, which reported sisters Kim and Kourtney’s water consumption but didn’t mention Khloé directly), Khloé took to social media to slam Bass for the city’s response to the fires while praising L.A.’s fire chief Kristin Crowley for her “honesty.” Crowley had blamed the department’s response on budget cuts in the clip the reality star shared.

Brown was far from the first or only social media user to call out the Kardashian for her harsh criticism of Bass. In response to a post from Khloé thanking first responders for their efforts, one user wrote, “Now tell everyone how many gallons of water you used in the last drought.” Another wrote, “How about the water waster just STFU.”
