Justin Timberlake Looks Stoic During DWI Court Hearing as Judge Revokes Driving Privileges in New York

The musician pleaded not guilty virtually to the revised misdemeanor charge on Friday in Sag Harbor

Justin Timberlake has lost his driving privileges in New York at the latest hearing stemming from his June DWI arrest.

The singer, 43, appeared in court virtually from Antwerp, Belgium on Friday, Aug. 2, pleading not guilty to a revised misdemeanor charge of driving drunk, PEOPLE confirms.

Timberlake, wearing a black collared shirt, listened closely as Sag Harbor Village Justice Carl Irace, replying "yes" twice to questions asked of him. Irace suspended the singer's driving privileges in the state of New York, though the length of the revocation is unclear. Following the hearing, Timberlake's lawyer Edward Burke Jr. told reporters the suspension is "standard with every DUI."

During the proceedings, Burke also withdrew his motion — put forth last week — to dismiss the case. Irace also expressed his displeasure with Burke's statement to the press following the July 26 hearing, urging him to "be more mindful when giving comments" and admonishing Burke that his words "come off as an attempt to poison the case before it even begins." Irace threatened to implement a gag order or request Timberlake appear in person, forcing a return from Europe and his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, if the comments continued.

The next hearing is scheduled for Aug. 9, followed by a tentative court date of Sept. 13 depending on what occurs at next Friday's hearing.

During Timberlake's last hearing on Friday, July 26, Burke claimed that the "Mirrors" creator was "not intoxicated" when he was arrested on June 18 in Sag Harbor, N.Y., in connection with driving under the influence of alcohol.

"I'll say it again. Justin Timberlake was not intoxicated. And we are very confident that charge — that criminal charge — will be dismissed," he added, per WABC.

Burke then expanded on his remarks in a statement following the hearing shared with PEOPLE. "The most important fact to know about this case is that Justin was not intoxicated and should not have been arrested for DWI," he said at the time. "The police made a number of very significant errors in this case. In court today, you heard the district attorney try to fix one of those errors. But that’s just one and there are many others. Sometimes the police make mistakes and this is just one of those instances."

Burke added, "Justin respects law enforcement and the very important job that they do. He cooperated with the police officers at all times and treated them with the respect they deserve. He also respects the entire judicial process including the District Attorney and Judge who were in court today. But the fact remains, he was not intoxicated and they made an error in arresting him for it. We are confident that this charge will be dismissed."

Timberlake's one-count DWI charge was accompanied by two citations: one for running a stop sign and one for failing to keep in lane.

Sag Harbor Police told PEOPLE at the time of the singer's arrest that while piloting his 2025 BMW, Timberlake allegedly failed "to stop at a duly posted stop sign" and "maintain" the vehicle's "lane of travel."

Upon conducting a traffic stop, authorities alleged that Timberlake was "operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition" and placed him under arrest.

The star was held overnight, then arraigned at the Sag Harbor Village Justice Court and "released on his own recognizance," per authorities.
