Julie Bowen Reflected On Helping Sarah Hyland Leave An Abusive Relationship
In a new interview, Julie Bowen spoke about supporting Sarah Hyland, who played her daughter on Modern Family, while she was in an abusive relationship.
Back in 2014, Sarah obtained a temporary restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, Matthew Prokop, alleging that during their five-year relationship, he physically and verbally abused her. Sarah also claimed that after she ended the relationship, he threatened her.
On the June 3rd episode of The Skinny Confidential Him & Her podcast, cohost Lauryn Bosstick said, "Sarah Hyland gives you credit for saving her life after a violent relationship."
"That's very sweet of her," Julie responded. Lauren added, "You were, it sounds like, a mother to her."
“I was a responsible adult that happened to be around at the right time," Julie continued. "But I mean, I'm sure another responsible adult would have done the exact same thing. I just love her.”
Julie went on to say that she feels as if Sarah was one of her own kids, along with Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould, and Rico Rodriguez, who played Alex, Luke, and Manny on Modern Family, respectively.
"I look at them all like my kids," she continued. "I love them."
