Monochrome outfits are always a vibe; one-toned looks read elegant and cool and like you just know what you’re doing, even if you don’t (me, sometimes). And, while you probably think most monochrome looks are color-coordinated to a T, like pairing the same exact shade of green from head to toe, Julianne Moore just changed everything I thought I know about one-toned looks.
Stepping out in rainy New York City, Moore was a beacon of holiday cheer—literally—in her all-red look (save for those supple leather flats that I’ll get to in a second). She opted for a seasonal classic, an oversized cashmere crewneck knit with a ribbed hem and neckline. She rolled up the sleeves, a nonchalant touch, IMO, and didn’t tuck it in (another easygoing move). But the boldest part of the look? She paired the dark-red knit with in-your-face cherry-red trousers. Her pants, baggy and billowy in all the right places, were a totally different shade of red, but TBH, pairing it with the burgundy knit worked so well—even if it looked a little kooky

Moore finished off her holiday red ensemble with pops of black; she accessorized with a black, woven bag and buttery leather ballet flats that looked so comfy. It makes sense, though, seeing as her entire outfit was so comfy, from the cuddly knit to the baggy pants to the easygoing, low-to-the-ground footwear. However, it still looked elegant (accessories have power!) and perfect for the holiday season (red, duh!).
So, my advice for you? With holiday dressing here (and parties near), think outside of the box of the sparkly sequin or perfectly coordinated red, and make like Moore by contrasting reds for a slightly chaotic but just as cheerful crimson look.
