Josh Gad's wife, Ida Darvish, has been in his corner long before the actor starred in Disney hits such as Frozen and Beauty and the Beast.

The couple first met in Los Angeles in 2004 when they starred opposite each other in a local play. Gad and Darvish wed in 2008 and welcomed two daughters: Ava Tanya and Isabella Eve.

Over the years, Gad has spoken about their connection, sharing details of their first encounter and relationship milestones. Now, he's revealing further insight in his new memoir, In Gad We Trust: A Tell Some, which hit bookshelves on Jan. 14.

"Ida and our beautiful girls ... without them, I would not have the inspiration and the drive to be the dreamer I am and the doer I hope to continuously be," Gad wrote.

Darvish moved to Los Angeles shortly after graduating college in 1997 with the hopes of becoming an actress.

"I hit the pavement. It was not an easy road by any stretch of the imagination," she told The Pell Center's Story in the Public Square in May 2021.

Darvish has had a successful career as a video game voice actor for the Assassin's Creed franchise starting in the early 2000s, according to IMDb. Her other acting credits include Disney's TV series The Mandalorian and the action thriller Inferno, featuring Tom Hanks.

Off-screen, Gad and Darvish founded Angry Child Productions in 2008. The Book of Mormon alum told The i Paper in November 2017 that they established the company to "create content that we both believe in.”

It's unclear if any of their Angry Child projects have come to fruition, but Darvish produced the 2011 BBC series Gigi: Almost American, starring Gad, which ran for two seasons.

While trying to find her footing as a Hollywood actress, Darvish returned to her theater roots — and coincidentally met her future husband at a small Santa Monica playhouse.

In 2004, Gad and Darvish portrayed a married couple in the David Ives play All in the Timing.

"I fell head-over-heels for her. At the time she was 29 and I was 23, and we were both shocked when we learned the other person’s age," he recalled to The i Paper. "It was one of those things where it was just kismet and we’ve been together ever since."

The couple eventually wed in May 2008.

"Sixteen years and going! I cannot believe that my marriage can now legally have its own drivers license," Gad captioned a photo on Instagram in May 2024 in celebration of their wedding anniversary.

He continued, "Our marriage has seen so many things we never could have predicted, so many challenges we never could have anticipated and so many gifts we never could have imagined. Love you, babe."

Gad and Darvish became parents in December 2010 when they welcomed their first daughter, Ava Tanya. The couple's family grew again in February 2014 with the arrival of their second daughter, Isabella Eve.

"Well, it's official. I am a daddy again. And my wife deserves an award for her incredible strength and amazing demeanor," Gad wrote on X after Isabella's birth.

Speaking to PEOPLE in June 2020, the Wolf Like Me shared the sweet nightly ritual he has with his kids.

"Before I go to bed, [I] sneak into my girls' room and I kiss my hand and then I touch both their faces, which sounds either really sweet or really creepy," Gad joked. "I need that reminder of the purest story in my life, which is my two girls."

The same year, Gad and Darvish navigated the COVID-19 pandemic as a family, and he called her "the real hero" for taking on at-home learning during quarantine.

Most recently, Gad felt compelled to write PictureFace Lizzy — a children's book about consumerism and technology — inspired by Ava and Isabella. According to the actor, his children started comparing themselves with their peers over who had what.

"My wife [Ida] and I were both very concerned about the girls having that stuff too early," he told PEOPLE in March 2024. "Not only because of the content they're exposed to but more importantly, because of what might be lost in the process, which is their imagination, their creativity and their ability to create outside of just the digital space."

When they're not working, they love to travel the world with their daughters, and their favorite destination is Italy.

"It’s our most frequented [destination], and we always start in Lake Como," Gad told Condé Nast Traveler in January 2024, adding that he's the designated trip planner.

"I let my wife plan one trip and it was a disaster," he continued. "We showed up to the hotel and there was literally an armed guard outside. I was like, “Okay, yeah, we're not going to go here.' "
