Jordan Chiles became an Olympic gold medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics with the support of her parents, Timothy and Gina Chiles.

In an interview with The New York Times in 2021, Gina revealed that Timothy signed Jordan up for gymnastics classes after spending a week alone with the high-energy youngster while his wife was away on business.

“My parents could not keep me from cartwheeling down the aisle of any open space or walking on my hands instead of my feet,” Jordan explained on the USA Gymnastics website. “People kept asking if I was in gymnastics. I had a lot of energy! So they put me in gym.”

The couple surprised Jordan with a trip to the gym for her first lesson when she was 6. It wasn’t long before she was hooked, and she started to produce impressive results, winning a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

In addition to being a member of the winning team at the 2022 World Championships, she also earned silver on the vault and floor exercise. Jordan also competed at the 2023 NCAA championships and took home two individual titles as a member of the UCLA Bruins squad. Together with Team USA, she took home the gold at the 2024 Olympics, too.

Timothy and Gina have been there every step of the way, rooting for her from the sidelines.

“She’s literally the life of me. I love her to death,” Jordan told NBC Sports of her mother in June 2021. “She’s my best friend. I can’t thank her enough for everything that she’s done for me and the love and support that she’s given is 1,000 percent out of this world."

From their shared ministry to raising five children, here's everything to know about Jordan Chiles’ parents, Timothy and Gina Chiles.

They are pastors

Timothy and Gina are senior pastors at the Houston campus of According to His Word Worship Center. Timothy grew up ministering alongside his father before becoming a music minister and eventually getting licensed.

Gina married Timothy in 1994 and later joined him in ministry, becoming a pastor herself.

Gina and Timothy have five children

The couple have four other children besides Jordan, who is the youngest of the bunch. Their oldest, Jazmin, owns a beauty salon called Hair Goals by Jazmin Dominique and often travels with Jordan as her makeup artist.

Their second daughter, Jade, is a mom to two young daughters and is an event planner. She has her own company, as well as an interior design studio.

Jordan also has two older brothers, Tajmen and Tyrus, who live out of the public eye. Growing up as a professional athlete, Jordan told Teen Vogue in a July 2024 profile that she knows her family sacrificed much for her to be where she is today — inspiring her to buy a house for her parents.

“My family had to sacrifice a lot of things, especially my siblings, taking me to the gym and doing all these things for me,” she told the outlet. “It’s been like that my whole life. But now, I try to shy away from all of that attention. I was that center when I was younger and I want to give everybody else that attention now.”

According to Jordan, her mom is “literally in love with sports,” she told KOIN in March 2018. So much so that Gina named her daughter after one of the greatest players in basketball history — Michael Jordan.

She felt the inspiration that he gave to her, and that was just a really huge and beautiful thing,” the Olympian told PEOPLE in 2023. “She just decided, ‘You know what? I'm going to make my child after him and see where life takes her.’ ”

Jordan added that she hopes to meet her namesake one day, who she says has helped her "find that motivation" in her own sport.

“I'm crossing my fingers that I'll actually be able to meet him and just get his advice for being somebody that looks up to him, what he gives out,” she said.

Gina moved to Texas with Jordan

When Jordan found herself stagnating and contemplating leaving gymnastics, she made a life-changing decision. The young athlete moved to Spring, Texas, to join her teammate Simone Biles at her gym, the World Champions Centre and train with her coaches Cecile and Laurent Landi.

Gina made the transition with her daughter, leaving Timothy and their four older children back home in Washington. The mother of five admitted that being away from her family for long periods of time was challenging, but the sacrifice was necessary for Jordan’s athletic development.

“She doesn’t ever ask for anything in regard to gymnastics,” Gina told Clark County Today in July 2021. “This is something she asked. ‘If you are 100 percent sure, we’ll do whatever we can to support it.’ ”

“We try not to go longer than three weeks,” she added about the toll of the separation from Timothy. “I love that man. He loves me. It’s difficult, but it’s worth it. Jordan is the baby of five kids. Our kids are grown, they’re older, living their lives. They 100 percent support Jordan.”

Gina wrote a children’s book

In 2018, Gina wrote a children’s book about her youngest child called Dream Big Little Chick which was published in 2020. Starting her journey with curiosity about her future, Little Chick experiments with many activities. Ultimately, she decides to become a "high-flying gymnast" and aims for the Animal Olympics.

Chick is a family nickname for Chiles after the character Chicken Little. Though the story is based on Jordan’s gymnastics journey, Gina wanted the message to inspire others.

“It was based on Jordan, but I was really thinking of little kids that had their own dream. Especially when things didn’t always seem like it could happen,” Gina told NBC Sports.

They are her biggest fans

Timothy and Gina are a constant presence at Jordan’s meets. The family patriarch is not very active on social media, but his posts often feature him and his wife supporting their daughter at various events. After Jordan secured her place on the U.S. Olympic Team heading to the 2024 Paris Olympics, Gina congratulated her daughter on her “incredible journey.”

“My favorite part was watching you mature as you fought for your dream,” she wrote in a July 2024 Instagram post. “It was hard and uncomfortable but you trusted God, yourself and your coaches. Instead of giving up you pushed harder.”

Gina also praised her daughter for persevering through some tough losses in her life, most notably the deaths of her grandfather and aunt.

“You made them proud Chick - you carried them with you. I know you wanted a part 2 - a form of redemption- and now you get to do it with your besties and both of your coaches! You all have earned this moment! THAT GIRL is heading to the AH-Olympics! I LOVE YOU!!! ❤️,” she wrote.

During the gymnastics qualifiers on July 28, 2024, Timothy and Gina sat next to Snoop Dogg as they watched their daughter secure a spot in the floor exercise final.

Gina isn't shy about defending her daughter online, either. Toward the end of the 2024 games, she spoke out about "racist disgusting comments" that Jordan had recently been subjected to.

"The racist disgusting comments are still happening in 2024. I'm tired of people who say it no longer exists," Gina wrote in a message she shared on X (formerly Twitter). "My daughter is a highly decorated Olympian with the biggest heart and a level of sportsmanship that is unmatched...and she's being called disgusting things."
