Joey Fatone Reveals the Backstreet Boys Song He's Most Excited to Perform on Upcoming Tour with AJ McLean
The *NSYNC member and the Backstreet Boys member recently announced a co-headlining tour in North America set for this spring
Joey Fatone is looking forward to feeling like a temporary Backstreet Boys member on his upcoming tour with AJ McLean.
In an interview with Audacy's 96.5 WTIC-FM on Wednesday, the *NSYNC member, 46, opened up about his and McLean's upcoming "A Legendary Night" tour and revealed which songs from each other's boy band catalogs they're excited to perform.
"We did this in Tampa, Florida, we did this show — it was kinda a '90s throwback and people loved it. We had such a blast, we had such a fun time doing it we were like, ‘Dude, why don’t we just put this out there for a couple of shows [and] see if people want to come see it?'" Fatone recalled.
In a press release shared on Jan. 9, both stars shared statements about what fans can expect.

"I’ve known AJ as long as I’ve known my own band members. We’ve worked together in the past on one-off projects here and there but never had the opportunity to create something together. This tour gives us the chance to combine the best of both musical worlds,” the former Dancing with the Stars contestant said.
He added: “I hope our fans are ready for a show that'll take them on a journey through the magic of *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, and everything-in-between. This show is all about fun and reminiscing and we can't wait to share this moment with audiences across the country.”
The “Everybody” singer, 46, echoed his statement. "I'm so excited to head out for this round of dates with my friend Joey. The perfect chance to listen to old favorites and share some special new songs that our loyal fans will be the first to hear!” he said.
As for what's in store on stage, the My Big Fat Greek Wedding star spoke about how they'll be incorporating each other's boy band catalogs into the concert. "We've done the show a few times on certain things, and I've gotten to know certain songs that he does like," explained Fatone.
"Like, I think 'This I Promise You' he's always wanted to do. So, we've done it. He's like, 'Can we do it? Can we do it?' I'm like, 'OK, we'll do it.' And for me, it was always 'Quit Playing Games.' I always loved [it]. I never got a chance to really do that, so that might be a song," revealed the musician.
Fatone and McLean announced the "A Legendary Night" string of concerts earlier this month. The limited run of dates kicks off on March 15 in Temecula, California, and after an additional show in Rancho Mirage, California, they’ll travel to the East Coast. There, they’ll take to the stage for a series of shows in Wallingford, Connecticut and Boston as well as Newark, New Jersey before wrapping up with three concerts across Florida.
The concerts are set to feature the two musicians performing choreography and a variety of their ‘90s and ‘00s hits together, while accompanied by a seven-piece band.
Beyond live renditions of the two stars’ classic pop songs, fans should also expect comedy and “intimate conversations of never before-told stories from their time on the road,” according to a press release.
